On Monday 14th October, 32 year 11 and 12 students attended an event which was hosted by the NHS Lincolnshire Talent Academy at Priory LSST. The programme was designed to inform students about a range of Allied Health Professional Careers and the routes into these.

There was a wide range of stations where students participated in activities and listened to, and talked with professionals, finding out about training, apprenticeships, work experience and gained some good careers advice.

Stands visited included Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Physiotherapy and both Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography. Students were able to try using devices used by occupational therapy to enable disabled or injured people to do everyday tasks without assistance, use an eye tracking devise to spell out words and to generate an electronic voice for speech when paralysed, look at and analyse x-rays, view the equipment used in radiology, look at feeding tubes used by the Dietetics team and many more activities.

The day concluded with a Question and Answer session where students could gain further information about what they had seen, discuss some of the other allied health opportunities; Art and Drama Therapists, Podiatry, Osteopaths, Orthoptics and Paramedics and Operating Department Practitioners who were not represented by stands and discuss work experience placement that could be available through the Talent Academy.
